Mockups vs. Final Product: A Cautionary Tale
In the early days of digital design, mockups often misled more than they informed. Tools like Photoshop and 3D rendering software enabled designers—especially those new to print production—to craft visuals that were stunning but unfeasible. These mockups, while impressive on screen, frequently ignored the practicalities of materials, processes, and costs.
Compounding the issue was the software itself. Even seasoned professionals struggled to produce mockups that accurately reflected the final product. Limitations in rendering textures, finishes, and structural nuances meant that what looked good digitally often failed in reality.
The result? Discrepancies between client expectations and deliverables, leading to dissatisfaction and wasted resources.
Today, while technology has advanced, the lesson remains: mockups are tools, not guarantees. They should complement, not replace, a deep understanding of print production realities.
